The short version, in plain words
- You send us something suspicious. We use artificial intelligence to analyze it and give you an assessment of whether it appears to be a scam.
- We collect your name, email or phone number, and whatever you send us to check.
- We do not sell your personal information or share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
- We do not share your phone number with anyone for marketing.
- A computer program using artificial intelligence reads what you send in order to answer you. A person does not read it unless you ask us for help or we need to fix a problem.
- If you share scam alerts with your Circle, other members may see what you submitted and the result when a check comes back as a scam. They do not see your safe checks and other activity.
- Kept Safe is for ages 13 and up. A person under 18 is added by a parent or guardian. See Section 13.
- You can delete everything, anytime, right from the app.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Kept Safe collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Kept Safe mobile app and keptsafe.app (together, the "Service").
1. Who we are
Kept Safe is operated by Total Safety Solutions LLC ("Kept Safe," "we," "us," or "our"), a California limited liability company located at 31441 Santa Margarita Pkwy. Ste A-113, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688. You can reach us anytime at info@keptsafe.app.
Kept Safe is a private company. We are not a law enforcement agency and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government agency.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
| What | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Name, and an email address or mobile phone number | To create and secure your account, to sign you in, and to send you important notices. You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a one-time code we send to your email address or phone number. |
| Your age range | To apply our 13-and-over rule and to decide who may run a Circle. We receive an age range from your device if it provides one. If it does not, we ask you to select your age range. We receive only a range, never your date of birth. See Section 13. |
| Content you submit for a check — the messages you paste, the screenshots and photos you upload, the codes you scan, and your answers to our questions about a phone call | This is what we analyze in order to tell you whether it is a scam. It may include the scammer's phone number, links, and whatever personal details the message happens to contain. When you upload a screenshot or photo, artificial intelligence reads the text out of the image so it can be checked. |
| Your Circle: who is in it, who invited whom, and each person's role | To run the shared subscription, to deliver alerts to the right people, and to keep a record of who agreed to what. |
| Your family safe word, if you create one | To show it to the members of your Circle when they ask for it in the app. |
| Messages you send our support team | To answer your question. |
Information we collect automatically
- Check history: the result of each check, the scam type identified, and when it happened.
- Device information: your device type, operating system, app version, and a push notification token so we can send you alerts.
- Basic usage and diagnostic data: information about how the Service is used, such as screen views, button taps, features used, whether a check was started or completed, session duration, device type, operating system, and app version, as well as crash and error reports. We use this information to understand how the Service is used and to find and fix problems. This data does not include the content you submit for a check, your check results, your name, email address, or phone number.
What we do not collect. We do not connect to your bank, and we do not see your account balances or transactions. We do not read your text messages, emails, call history, contacts, or photo library. We only see the specific things you choose to send us. We do not listen to or record audio, and the app does not have a microphone feature. We do not track your location. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect only to:
- Analyze what you send us and give you an assessment and next steps.
- When you have agreed to share scam alerts with your Circle, notify the other members when a check turns up a scam and give them suggested wording for a follow-up conversation.
- Set up, secure, and support your account, and run your Circle's shared subscription.
- Apply our 13-and-over rule and decide who is allowed to run a Circle.
- Send you service messages, such as your sign-in code, your check results, and important notices about the Service.
- Understand which scams are circulating so we can improve our accuracy and choose what to teach in the Learning Center. When we do this, we use information about scam patterns, not about you.
- Understand how people use the Service, evaluate which features are used, and improve the Service using the usage and diagnostic data described in Section 2.
- Detect and prevent abuse of the Service, and meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your personal information or share it for advertising or marketing purposes. See Section 5.
4. Messages we send you
Kept Safe works inside the app. There is no number to forward anything to. We do not currently send marketing texts or emails.
- Sign-in codes. If you choose to sign in with your phone number or email address, we send you a one-time code. This happens only when you ask to sign in. Standard message and data rates may apply to a texted code.
- Push notifications. When a Circle member has agreed to share scam alerts and a check comes back as a scam, we send a push notification to other Circle members. You can turn push notifications off in your phone's settings at any time; doing so does not otherwise affect your account.
- Account emails. Occasional notices about your account, a change to these policies, or a security matter. These are not marketing and cannot be unsubscribed from while your account is open, because they are how we reach you about the Service.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
We share information only with the service providers that make Kept Safe work. They are bound by contract to use it only to provide their service to us, and not for their own purposes:
| Provider | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | The content you submit for a check, including screenshots and photos | To run the AI analysis that produces your result, and to read the text out of an image you upload. Content sent through their business API is not used to train their models. |
| Clerk | Your name, email address, phone number, and sign-in records | To create and secure your account and to deliver your one-time sign-in code. |
| Fly.io | All Service data | To run our application servers and infrastructure. |
| Neon | All stored Service data (our database) | To host our database. |
| Expo | A push notification token and the text of the notification | To deliver push notifications to your device. |
| Sentry | Crash and error reports, including device type and app version | To find and fix problems in the app. We configure it not to send the content of your checks. |
| Apple, Google | Subscription and purchase information | To process app store subscriptions. Apple may also provide us with your age range through its age-assurance tools, when available. |
| PostHog | Usage and diagnostic data described in Section 2 | To provide product analytics and help us understand and improve how the Service is used. |
| RevenueCat | Subscription and purchase information | To manage subscription status and access to paid features. |
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order; to protect the rights, property, or safety of a person, including reporting a threat of imminent harm; or in connection with a merger or sale of our business, in which case we will notify you and this Policy will continue to apply to your information.
Within your Circle: when a member has agreed to share scam alerts and a check comes back as a scam, the other members of that Circle are shown what was checked and what the result was. Members are told about this sharing before they join a Circle. An adult member chooses whether to share their own scam alerts when they join, and declining still joins them; an adult who is sharing can stop sharing with any individual administrator at any time in the app, and turn it back on. A member aged 13 to 17 cannot decline.
Nothing else is shared inside a Circle. Members do not see each other's safe checks, their app activity, their location, their contacts, or anything on their phone. There is no activity feed and no administrator view of another member's messages. An administrator can see who is in the Circle and manage seats; that is the extent of it.
6. AI processing
Kept Safe uses artificial intelligence provided by Anthropic to analyze what you send and produce your result. This means the content of your check, including any text, screenshot, or photo you submit, is sent to and processed by Anthropic. The analysis is performed automatically by software, not by a person.
A member of our team may review specific content only when: you ask us for support and it is needed to help you; we are investigating a technical problem or a report of abuse; or the law requires it. We limit that access to the people who need it.
Kept Safe's assessments are AI-generated guidance. They are a helpful second opinion, not a guarantee, and they are not financial, legal, or medical advice. See our Terms of Service.
7. How long we keep information
- Account information: as long as your account is active.
- Content you submit for a check: we store this on our servers only when a check comes back as something other than safe and is shared within your Circle. Content stored by Kept Safe is deleted automatically 90 days later.
- Checks that come back safe: not stored on Kept Safe's servers.
- Your own history in the app: kept on your device, and removed when you delete the app or your account.
- Check results and scam types (without the original message content): retained to improve accuracy.
- Circle membership and consent records: retained while the Circle exists, because we must be able to show who agreed to join and when.
- Anthropic processing: content sent to Anthropic for AI analysis may be retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days after processing.
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your information within 30 days, except for the records above that we are required to keep, and anything we must retain for legal or accounting purposes.
8. Deleting your data
You can delete your account and your data at any time:
- In the app: Settings › Account › Delete my account.
- By email: write to privacy@keptsafe.app and we will handle it within 30 days.
Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account. Use one of the methods above.
9. How we protect information
We encrypt information in transit and at rest, restrict access to the small number of people who need it, and use reputable providers with strong security practices. No service can promise perfect security, but we take this seriously, and if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
10. Your choices
- Push notifications: turn them off in your phone's settings.
- Your Circle: leave it at any time in the app. An administrator can remove any member.
- Your account: view, correct, or delete your information in the app.
- Sign-in codes and account notices: these are necessary to run the Service and cannot be turned off while your account is open. Close your account to stop them.
- Circle sharing: if you are 18 or older, you choose whether your scam alerts are shared with your Circle when you join. If you share, you can stop sharing with any individual administrator at any time in the app, and turn it back on.
11. Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete your personal information, subject to the exceptions in Section 7.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We will never give you a worse price or service for making a request.
Sale and sharing: Kept Safe does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have not done so in the past 12 months. This includes the personal information of consumers we know to be under 16.
To make a request, email info@keptsafe.app or call 657-206-6070. We will verify your identity before acting, usually by confirming control of the email or phone number on your account. An authorized agent may make a request on your behalf with written permission. We respond within 45 days, and will tell you if we need more time.
The categories of personal information we collect are identifiers (name, email, phone number), commercial information (subscription status), internet activity (app usage and diagnostics), the content of communications you choose to submit, and one item of protected-class information (your age range). We collect these for the business purposes described in Section 3.
12. Other state privacy rights
If you live in a state with a comprehensive privacy law, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, or Montana, you have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal information, and to appeal a decision we make about your request. Use the same contact details in Section 11. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our response, and you may contact your state Attorney General.
13. Teenagers and children
Kept Safe is for ages 13 and up. The Service is not directed to children under 13, we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, and a person under 13 cannot join a Circle. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us at privacy@keptsafe.app and we will delete it.
How we check age
Age is confirmed on the person's own device. When someone starts or joins a Circle, we receive an age range from their device if it provides one. If it does not, we ask the person to select their age range. We receive only a range, never a date of birth. We do not collect or store a date of birth. If the person is under 13, they cannot create an account or join a Circle.
Who may hold an account and run a Circle
You must be 18 or older to hold the subscription and to be an administrator of a Circle. A person aged 13 to 17 may be a member of a Circle, added by a parent or guardian, but may not run one.
If you are adding your teenager
By adding a person under 18 to your Circle, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian, and you consent on their behalf to the collection and use of their information as described in this Policy. Your teenager still has to accept the invitation on their own phone and pass the age check themselves. Nobody is added silently.
What a teenager's membership does and does not mean
- We collect from a minor the same limited things we collect from anyone: their name, an email address or phone number, their age range, and whatever they choose to submit for a check.
- When a minor's check comes back as a scam, the other members of the Circle see what was checked and the result — the same as for any member. This is the point of a Circle, and we say so before they join.
- A Circle is not a monitoring tool. A parent cannot read their teenager's messages, see their safe checks, see their location, or view their activity through Kept Safe. We do not build any such feature.
- We do not serve advertising to anyone, and we do not use a minor's information to build a profile or for any targeted advertising.
- We do not sell a minor's personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Removing a minor
A parent or guardian may remove a minor from the Circle at any time in the app, which deletes that person's membership and consent records and frees their seat. To delete the minor's account and information entirely, use the deletion methods in Section 8, or write to privacy@keptsafe.app and we will handle it within 30 days. A teenager may also leave a Circle themselves.
Some of the material in the Toolkit deals with frightening situations, including sexual extortion. Where a guide is written for a minor, it is written for them directly and points to the right help, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. It does not require them to tell us anything.
14. Changes to this Policy
If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Kept Safe after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
